Review: The Spa at Four Seasons Silicon Valley
I love to go on elaborate international getaways, but sometimes that can be pretty hard with such a busy schedule. The hack? Finding a really great spot for a staycation -- one of the most underrated activities ever.
Of course, it is still a splurge which can be hard to accept if you don't yet trust the location or business you're paying for, so sometimes I cut the cost a bit by using a Groupon. There is absolutely nothing wrong with pampering yourself and being frugal at the same time!
This weekend, I grabbed a Groupon for The Spa at the Four Seasons Hotel in Silicon Valley. At $139, the Groupon covered a 60-minute massage, use of Spa Facilities and a glass of sparkling wine. It was kind of worth it, but still a bit overpriced.
The Spa sits on the third floor of the hotel, which you can access through the elevators at the end of the Lobby. It wasn't particularly crowded, which was nice, and I arrived early to take advantage of the pool and other spa facilities. I do this at other high-end spas like Burke Williams, so I was really looking forward to this me-time.
Unfortunately, the spa facilities were below expectations. The steam room was under construction, the spa area itself was pretty small and the pool was tiny. It's definitely not a place you should go if you want an entire day to relax alone. Plus, there was a lot of construction.
I tried to relax pool-side (it was too awkward to swim in the pool) but the high-pitched drilling soon chased me away. I think that I'll be back, though, perhaps after construction is done. I couldn't find the jacuzzi which was a bummer. One of the things I loved about Burke Williams was lounging in the jacuzzi for an hour just to relax, but alas, this was not possible at The Four Seasons.
There is one perk, however, to The Spa at the Four Seasons and it is oh-so important: food.
That's right, you can hang out by the pool and enjoy a glass (or many glasses) of wine. You can also nom on Truffle Fries or a burger which is exactly how I want to spend my staycations. I would like to be back to review the food, but I could not enjoy the food this time since the construction was too noisy. I was able to grab a snap of the menu below:
Okay, so again, not a great experience pre-massage. However, the main event is the massage itself so let's take you into the Ladies Lounge.
You'll be assigned an electronic locker in a pretty small locker room. You'll almost be disappointed by the locker room until you realize you get a wildly comfortable robe. I want to live in that robe for sure. Suddenly, you'll feel extremely relaxed and ready for the Ladies Lounge.
The lounge is pretty small, so if there are too many women in it, it becomes a bit awkward and chatty, but that's the case at any spa. There is a selection of tea and fruit-infused water, accompanied by jars of nuts. I was upset that there were only nuts in the Ladies Lounge (really wanted a burger) and was assuming that the raisin-nut mix was just a less chocolatey version trail mix, but I was wrong! Those raisins and nuts were amazing!
I filled out my massage questionnaire in the Ladies Lounge using a clip board and pen by the side of my chair and my masseuse (Katie) came to get me right on time. My massage lasted exactly 60-minutes and it was fabulous.
They do not hold back here. There were many hot towels involved and the table was mechanical and warmed. The oils smelled lovely but were not too over powering (I tried the Orange one) and I definitely fell asleep. I definitely will return for another massage because it was way better than any massage I've had (and I've had a lot.)
At the end of my massage, I put on my super comfortable robe and exited the room only to be greeted by a glass of sparking wine. You don't have to get wine, but that's what I chose and it was the perfect ending to a great massage. I sipped on the wine out in the Ladies Lounge and read a book while munching on the nut mix. I hung out there for about 30-minutes before heading to the locker room, changing and heading out.
I will be back, but probably on another Groupon since I'm not sure the experience was worth the $139. However, once the construction is done, there might be some hope.
